MY STORY

Coding with Passion, Delivering with Precision

At the core of my work is a profound passion for coding, infusing every project with creativity and dedication. I prioritize precision and quality, meticulously crafting software solutions that are reliable, efficient, and customized to meet your unique requirements.

Work Experience

More than eight years of full time software engineering, from my start at Qfact in 2018 to the freelance work I do now. Below is the timeline: what I owned in each engagement, and what changed because of it.

At a.s.r., one of the largest insurers in the Netherlands, I build and maintain the corporate website and the policy application flow, the main entry point for every incoming insurance application. I work inside a scrum team of 7 developers, 9 people in total, on flows used by hundreds of thousands of people.

  • Took ownership of the release process. I designed it end to end, ran it and chaired the ceremonies around it, so releases became routine and stakeholders knew what was shipping and when.
  • Cut the internal errors that were causing applications to fail part way through, so fewer customers drop out of a process that is high stakes for them.
  • Extended the policy application flow and the calculation tool to support dozens more employers, letting thousands of additional employees arrange cover through it.
  • Migrated the corporate site from Sitecore and Vite to headless Contentstack and Nuxt.js.
  • Restructured the component layer, added automated test coverage and coordinated a platform wide rollout around live campaigns and planned releases.
  • Worked with business and IT stakeholders to keep technical delivery aligned with what the business was trying to achieve.

Stack: .NET, Sitecore, Contentstack, Vue.js, Nuxt.js, Vite.

I carried on with Qfact as a freelancer after my permanent years there, in a focused delivery role for QIntelligence.

  • Led the QIntelligence initiative end to end, from the document indexing foundations through to a full automated content analysis system.
  • Built the analysis pipeline on NLP tooling and large language models, and put it in front of the people who had been doing the reading by hand.
  • Delivered a system that cut administrative workload and improved the accuracy of project recommendations for platform users.

Stack: Python, Flask, spaCy, NLTK, Gensim, Llama 2.

Boekjaar is an accounting SaaS startup. I worked directly with the co founder, which meant short lines and production ready work quickly.

  • Designed and implemented a data warehouse that structures financial data for automated annual reporting and for core platform functionality.
  • Implemented 25 MySQL data warehouse tables modelling fiscal year reporting data, so the platform could replace manual analysis with automated reporting workflows.
  • Built integrations with the accounting systems Exact Online and e-Boekhouden.

Stack: Node.js, AWS Serverless, MySQL.

I led the development team at Qfact, a microservices SaaS platform used daily by thousands. I owned the architectural decisions, the code quality bar and the delivery process, and I took the team’s case into the product roadmap discussions.

  • Led 4 developers as direct reports, and hired 2 people who stayed with the company long term.
  • Introduced measurable sprint velocity where none existed, which is what made delivery predictable.
  • Eliminated recurring user facing bug classes, which never came back after the fixes.
  • Built a configurable reporting tool that let organisations self serve 25+ frequently requested use cases without a developer.
  • Made the architectural decisions and presented them to the team, and trained the junior engineers coming up behind me.
  • Managed internal and external stakeholders, and contributed to strategic discussions on Qfact’s software product roadmap.

Stack: Node.js, Python, microservices, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, RabbitMQ, Vue.js.

I started my career at Qfact. My first years there went into the microservices behind the SaaS platform and the application layer on top of them.

  • Designed and implemented full stack solutions, from the services and the data model up to the interface.
  • Added audit capability through event sourcing, which met the compliance requirements the platform’s government users had to satisfy.
  • Kept a long lived SaaS codebase maintainable by applying SOLID and Clean Code principles.
  • Worked with a team of engineers in an agile environment (SCRUM).

Stack: Node.js, Python, event sourcing, MySQL, MongoDB, RabbitMQ, Vue.js.
